Many of us loved the circus as a kid, laughing at the clowns and watching those amazing trapeze artists swinging overhead. But in this high-flying episode, Sebastian Terry—host of our go90-exclusive series, 100 Things—not only helps Leah Nichols realize her aerial dreams, he tested himself.
“As a kid, Leah loved the circus and was awestruck by the flying trapeze artists. She’s a very kind, lovely person whose sister has a disability that constantly requires physical therapy. So Leah’s been studying physical therapy to help others. But she also wanted to be a trapeze artist for a day, so we went to the Santa Monica Pier and got taken through these amazing trapeze lessons from the Trapeze School New York in LA.
“We didn’t learn just to swing on a bar but also about some tricky maneuvers. We progressed from doing a Z-hang, with the bar behind your knees and you dangle upside down, to doing a knee hang, extending your arms and getting caught by a secondary person on a trapeze. I mean, we were actually flying through the air and getting caught. It took a full day, but you’ll see some surprising tricks. Leah was overjoyed, and I got to feel what it was like to fly through the air with the greatest of ease. Well, maybe not quite like that. And I learned a new thing or two about myself.”
