Picture this: You’re in the middle of your best powder run of the day when you suddenly have to… stop to wipe fog off the prescription glasses that you wear under your goggles. This used to happen to me, and frankly, it sucks. But then, like the sun suddenly peeking out on a cloudy day, I saw the light.
See, I am an avid snowboarder, and for a long time I wore prescription glasses under my Smith Knowledge OTG goggles. Unfortunately they fogged up like crazy, not an ideal scenario when bombing down steeps at 30 or 40 miles per hour. So I switched to contacts, but I never got totally used to wearing them for extended periods. My eyes would get dry and I’d feel exhausted toward the end of a long day on the mountain.
Then I discovered a so-simple-it’s-brilliant solution from SportRx: an insert for any goggle model that puts your prescriptions right next to your goggle lenses. The SportRx Prescription Snow Goggle Insert ($90) clips in and fits snugly inside the goggles near the front. This puts them further away from your face, effectively preventing all that fog. (For additional clarity, you can also get anti-fog coating; I did and have been fog-free ever since.)
Granted, they are a little pricy, but you are essentially getting a new pair of prescription lenses in the form of a terrific product. Plus, the inserts are super light, installation is a snap, there are no moving parts, and they fit virtually any model of goggles. Assuming, of course, that you don’t endo mid-tree run. Keep that nose up, buttercup.
