The jury’s still out on whether former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron will make a splash in the NFL, but one thing’s for certain: he now has franchise-caliber hair. The two-time national champ and Heisman Trophy runner-up was in Manhattan last week for a fresh haircut and styling courtesy of celebrity men’s groomer Amy Komorowski and AXE Hair’s fancy new line of gels. Then he sat down with Made Man to talk about the upcoming NFL Draft, what his girlfriend Katherine Webb thinks of his new look and what’s next for him, tattoo-wise. (Have you seen this guy’s tattoos? They’re nearly Kaepernick-esque.)

We’ll roll out the full Q&A as we get closer to the draft in May, but here’s a sneak peek to whet your appetite.

“One thing I’ve learned about the NFL Draft is a lot of those reporters have no clue what they’re talking about. NFL teams are not going to be telling these guys who they’re drafting.”

Which current NFL quarterback has the most similar skill set to yours?
Well, everybody tries to compare me to Tom Brady. Just because we’re probably both underrated coming out of college and everybody says he couldn’t move or whatever. So everybody compares us, but I don’t know. I feel like I’m just kind of my own self, my own QB.

You’ve won two national championships. You were a Heisman runner-up. And yet, NFL Draft analysts are projecting you to be selected after quarterbacks from Central Florida, Fresno State and Eastern Illinois. Is that frustrating?
No. I don’t worry about that. One thing I’ve learned is a lot of those reporters have no clue what they’re talking about. NFL teams are not going to be telling these guys who they’re drafting. That’s the last thing they’re going to do is go off and tell Mel Kiper or Todd McShay, like, “Hey, we’re taking this guy, so you can go report it.” So I try not to pay attention to any of that. When I get my opportunity to showcase my talents, I think I’ll be fine.

Let’s see Johnny Manziel do that.

How is your girlfriend handling the whole draft process? Is she worried you might get drafted by a team located thousands of miles away from Alabama or New York?
No. She’s kind of like me. We’re both just laidback and happy about the process. We’re both kind of taking it all in. I know she’s excited I’m here today to try out this new hairstyle. I think she’ll love this messy look. She likes messing with my hair, playing with it sometimes, so with it being able to hold for 24 hours, she’s definitely going to like this.

We noticed you’ve got a lot of tattoos. Any plans for a neck tattoo?
Ha ha. No. I’m not one of those guys. I like tattoos, but I keep them where you can’t see them if I’m dressed up. … I love how people try to make it a big deal, like I’m the only person with tattoos. But that’s life, I guess!
