Every spirit has a story. And when it comes to Cabo Wabo Tequila, fittingly enough, that story has real spirit.
You see, while some adult beverages are the product of profit-seeking fat cats, others emerge from high-volume passion. A passion that’s genuine, powerful and, frankly, pretty kickass.
In the case of Cabo Wabo, that passion lays in the heart of one legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, on-and-off Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar. You see, Sammy loved tequila, and in 1996, on the back roads of Cabo San Lucas, he got inspired to take that love and basically blow the doors off every tequila that had come before.
So he befriended a family that had been growing agave for 80 years. And not just any kind of agave, but one that rebelled against the spate of bad tequila that’s been crossing the border for decades. We’re talking 100-percent Weber’s Blue Agave, pretty much the finest agave known to man.
Part 2 of the rebellion involved patience with the aging process, so all Cabo Wabo Tequila (excluding Blanco) ages anywhere from 4 to 38 months in American—hell yeah, American—oak barrels. Let’s break down the palate-rocking results…
>> Cabo Wabo Tequila Blanco boasts unadulterated agave flavors and a slightly spicy character that teases the palate and delivers a crisp, clean finish.
>> Cabo Wabo Tequila Añejo presents a full vanilla and caramel nose that quickly gives way to woody notes on the palate, complemented by hints of honey and chocolate.
>> Cabo Wabo Tequila Reposado delivers a distinctive experience with a bold peppery flavor and hints of fruit that linger on the palate briefly, followed by a long, spicy finish. (No wonder it’s recognized as one of the finest tequilas in the world.)
Was the revolution a success? It’s still going on, but it’s pretty hard to argue with the results. This tequila trio consistently takes home high accolades from the San Francisco Spirits Competition, Ultimate Spirits Competition, Wine Enthusiasts and many more.
Meanwhile, Cabo’s rockers look for more ways to share that rebellious spirit with the world. Hence, their Rock n’ Awe Tour, which goes down next month and will give a few lucky fans a chance to indulge in the true rock star lifestyle over one decadent weekend. From Vegas to LA to the ancestral homeland of Cabo itself, they’ll be cutting loose and creating memories that last a lifetime.
Oh, and we’ll be sending a representative to document the experience, of course. Watch this space for stories and photos as epic as the spirit itself. And while you’re at it, why not pour yourself a glass? Trust us, it rocks.
