As a resut, she grew up surrounded by music. Although she never had any formal voice training, she did appear with her mother on stage in Bahrain when she was nine years old. In 2005, Burke auditioned for X Factor, and made it to the top seven. In 2008, she auditioned again and won the competition. Since winning X Factor, she has performed with Elton John at his concert on New Years Eve 2008.
