Alison Pill was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and attended Vaughan Road Academy. In 2006, Pill starred as Grace Webster in the short-lived NBC drama The Book of Daniel, and was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Martin McDonagh's The Lieutenant of Inishmore. Pill had a major supporting role as campaign manager Anne Kronenberg in the Oscar-winning 2008 film Milk. She recently starred as April, a college student who discovers she has cancer, in the HBO series, In Treatment. She played Annie Sullivan on the Broadway revival of The Miracle Worker from February 12, 2010 to its closing date April 4, 2010.
She currently appears in Aaron Sorkin's HBO series The Newsroom as Maggie Jordan.
In September 2012, she accidentally tweeted a nude photo of herself. The actress quickly deleted the photo and apologized to her more than 13,000 followers.
"Yep. That picture happened," Pill tweeted. "Ugh. My tech issues have now reached new heights, apparently. How a deletion turned into a tweet... Apologies."
She will star in the upcoming thriller Snow Piercer, with Chris Evans and Jamie Bell in 2013
