Introduction
Alyson Lee Hannigan is an American actress best known for her long-running performance as Willow Rosenberg on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That led to a role as the female lead in the American Pie movies, where as flautist Michelle Flaherty she raised the profile of band members, and raised other things, by casually mentioning that "one, time, at band camp" she had inserted her flute into her vagina. Despite her petite build, the cutie further turned up the heat by improvising the demand, "Say my name, bitch" in a bedroom scene. Hannigan is one of the ensemble of stars of the current CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, playing Lily Aldrin. In between Buffy and How I Met your mother Alyson appeared in shows such as Veronica Mars and that 70's show.
Life Story
Alyson, born in Washington DC, began her acting career in Atlanta at the young age of 4 in commercials sponsoring such companies as McDonald's, Six Flags, and Oreos. Half irish and half Jewish, Alyson was raised primarily by her mother, a real estate agent. Her acting career turned serious after they moved to California in 1985. While attending North Hollywood High, Alyson began auditioning for agents. After doing many commercials, she appeared on numerous shows, guest starring in Picket Fences, Roseanne, Touched by an Angel, and the The Torkelsons before landing her role as wise-cracking computer nerd turned lesbian witch Willow on Buffy. After replacing an actress who had appeared in the unaired pilot, Alyson's wide-ranging character became a particular fan favorite. By the ened of the series in 2003 Alyson was earning $250,000 per episode. In early 2004, Hannigan made her West End debut, starring in a stage adaptation of When Harry Met Sally at London’s prestigious Theatre Royal Haymarket. Unfortunately, she played opposite Luke Perry. She also appeared in several eposides of that 70's Show (playing a sexy cop) and Veronica Mars before settling into her highly successfuly role as Lily in How I Meet your Mother.
In real life, Alyson played the clarinet in junior high. Ahem. Clarinet. In the band. She is also known to be not ticklish. She is married to former Buffy co-star Alexis Denisof, who has also appeared on How I Met Your Mother, Alyson gave birth to a daughter, Satyana, on her own 35th birthday in 2009. She has appeared in a number of photo shots and has been a consistent selection in 'Top 100 Sexists Women' lists over the ears, often out rating her Buffy Co-Star Sarah Michelle Gellar.
