Amanda Mealing

Amanda Mealing, born in London on 22 April 1968, is a famous English actress. Her biological father was a half-Sierra Leonean poet and activist while her natural mother was an American model who worked for Biba. Young Amanda Mealing and her elder sister were adopted by different families and she was then raised in Dulwich, South London. In 1998, Amanda Mealing married Richard Sainsbury, a screenwriter, in Richmond, Greater London. She gave birth to their first child, Milo James Sanisbury, in 1999. Their second child, Otis Joe Sainsburg, was born in 2002 in Redbridge. In August 2000, soon after the birth of her second child, Amanda Mealing was diagnosed with breast cancer. She subsequently underwent a mastectomy followed by six weeks of radiotherapy and seven months of chemotherapy and made a full recovery. Amanda Mealing lives in Lincolnshire, a county in the east of England, with her family.

Her career began at the age of six, when she appeared in a Christmas special program of Julie Andrews, an award-winning British actress, singer and author, aired on BBC. By the age of nine, Amanda Mealing was a full-time dancer. As she was fond of acting, her adoptive parents sent her to the Italia Conti Academy. When she was in the academy, Amanda Mealing got an opportunity to act in Just William, a television series aired on ITV. She also played the role Tracy Edwards in the children's drama Grange Hill. Amanda Mealing made several appearances on TV programmes, such as The Darling Buds of May, In Deep, The Bill, Midsomer Murders, and The Gravy Train as well as in movies like Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Girl with Brains in Her Feet. She played the character of Ruth Manning in the TV series, The Grand in 1997 and the character of JoJo Spiers in the TV series, The Lakes in 1999. Amanda Mealing gave a remarkable performance as Connie Beauchamp, a cardiothoracic consultant in BBC One's Holby City. She was nominated for the ‘Most Popular Newcomer’ category in National Television Award, United Kingdom (UK), in 2005. Her acting was also widely appreciated in the TV series Serious and Organised. Amanda Mealing is a friend of Paul O'Grady, a famous TV presenter and has made an appearance on his show. Amanda Mealing was involved with Save the Children in Sierra Leone. She filmed a documentary on Karoo Bay, a slum built on the rubbish thrown away by the people of Freetown, Sierra Leone. Amanda Mealing is also a part of a celebrity book group, reviewing the novels for Eve magazine. She loves music and likes to spend her free time with her family and friends.
