Introduction
Anna Friel is an outspoken British actress who stars in the American TV show Pushing Daisies (2007). Anne began working as an actress when she was a teenager. Her first work was in the theatre but she turned to film in 1997 where she played opposite Ewan McGregor in the film Land Girls (1998).
Life Story
Anna is a woman for a real man as she has no problem letting people know how she feels and she makes sure she gets noticed. She proved this well enough in 1994 when she had a lesbian screen kiss with Nicola Stephenson on the set of the TV show Brookside. A lot of actresses would have refused to do this because of the controversy it would cause at the time, but Anna didn’t bat an eye.
After Brookside in 1995, it looked as if Anna was going to make it really big in movies. The press certainly dubbed her that way. However, her first movie, "The Tribe," was a bit disappointing. Only recently has it even come out on DVD, and the main reason many people watched the movie was because of the nudity from Anna. Pretty much every movie Anna has done since has some nudity it, which ranges from bath scenes (very common) to flashing her breasts. She has also been caught in some topless beach photos off set when on holiday. She isn't shy about being naked and actually said in an interview, "I feel totally uninhibited about my body."
Friel has told interviewers that she's resisted pressure from some American producers to lose weight. At the same time, Anna admits she's readily augmented her small breasts for some roles. Talking to "heat" magazine about her wardrobe in "Mad Cows," Anna said, "They use your breasts, but they push them up with silicone implants at the side of the bra. They weighed a ton. I had severe backache."
She seems to star in movies with dismal titles, which might be holding back her "big break." In the opinion of some viewers, Anna does too many "period pieces" and needs to focus on movies which appeal to a wider audience, which can be easier said than done.
Her more recent movies are Goal! (2005) and Rubbish (2007), and TV shows, like The Jury (2004), but her biggest exposure to US audiences came on the unique US fantasy show Pushing Daisies. Although it is a favorite among critics with a loyal following of viewers, the show has been axed.
Anna is friends with fellow British hottie Rachael Wiesz and Aussie cutie Naomi Watts.
Anne is of Irish descent and is married to actor David Thewlis. They have one child together.
