Annette Bening is an Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA Award winning American actress. In addition, she’s been nominated three times for the Academy Award. Nearly equal to her accomplishments on the silver screen, is her notoriety for having settled down one of the Hollywood’s most notorious ladies men, Warren Beatty. The pair married in 1993, and have four children together.
Annette Bening was born in Topeka, Kansas, and is the youngest of four children. Her family relocated to California, when she was young. Once she got over saying “We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto,” Bening studied theater at San Diego Mesa College and San Francisco State University. During this time, she worked as a cook on a charter fishing boat, but decided to swap in the chum and sweaty, sea-faring men for a shot at New York theater.
Bening relocated to the Big Apple, and broke into acting at the age of 28. She had a few small television parts, but made her first big splash in Tina Howe’s acclaimed Coastal Disturbances, opposite Tim Daly, in 1987. After several stage roles, Bening made the cross-over into movies. Her first critical success was in Stephen Frear’s The Grifters, in 1990. Bening was also married during the mid-eighties to choreographer J. Steven White. However, the pair separated, and she met Warren Beatty in 1991 while filming Bugsy. The couple began a two-year secret romance, most likely due to Beatty’s needing two entire years to go over each and every previous lover he’d had with his new girlfriend. The pair was married in 1993, and have since had four children together. These are Bening’s only children, while Beatty is uncertain of how many he has father (he believes the number to be lower than the population of Malaysia, but not by much).
Bening is a member of the California Arts Council, and continues to stay busy with acting roles. She has three high-profile films slated for release in 2008, including The Women, A Woman of No Importance, and Dirty Tricks.
In January 2011 Annette's latest film The Kids are alright won 2 Golden Globe Awards.
Annette was nomnated for an Oscar in 2011 for her film The Kids Are Alright, but lost to Natalie Portman.
