Charlotte Church Biography

At the age of 11 Charlotte rocketed to fame after appearing on the television show, Talking Telephone Numbers. This launched a classical career with concerts at Cardiff Arms Park, Royal Albert Hall, and performing for Pope John Paul II and US President Bill Clinton. In 2005, she branched out into pop music, and as of 2007 has sold a total of over 10 million albums worldwide.

Charlotte Church was born in Llandaf, a district of Cardiff, Wales. Her mother, Maria raised her with James Church, because she was separated from Charlotte’s biological father. Charlotte adopted James’ surname. Her debut album, Voice of an Angel, showcased Charlotte’s unique voice, and sold millions of copies worldwide. It also made her the youngest artist with a No. 1 selling album on the British Classical Crossover Charts. Charlotte did three more highly successful classical albums, Charlotte Church, Dream a Dream, and Enchantment before deciding to switch over and try her hand at the much highly respected genre of pop music (scoff, scoff).

2005 saw the release of her first pop album, Tissues and Issues. While it had four modestly successful singles, it also ushered in the era of former-childhood-star bad behavior. Following in the proud footsteps of her predecessors, Drew Barrymore, Macaulay Culkin, and Corey Feldman, who all got way too big way too fast, Charlotte began to fall into trouble. She was caught out smoking, partying, giving the finger to journalists, and hooking up with multiple different guys. One of these men, Kyle Johnson, leaked intimate details of their sex life to the press. Fortunately, for Charlotte, there was no accompanying videotape, so she didn’t have to become the Welsh version of Paris Hilton. She did give Kyle a public backhand, letting people know that even classical Welsh musicians know how to say, “Un uh. Don’t go there, boyfriend.”

In 2007, Charlotte gave birth to a baby girl, Ruby Megan Henson, the daughter of current boyfriend Gavin Henson. She hopes that having a baby will straighten out her life. This seems to be some new form of rehab in the entertainment community, being indulged by classy company like Nicole Ritchie and Christina Aguilera.
