Cobie Smulders Life Story

Cobie Smulders was born in Vancouver, Canada in 1982. Of Dutch and British extraction, she was named after a great aunt. As a youngster her dream was to be a marine biologist or a doctor. Cobie attended Lord Byng Secondary School, two years behind fellow flattie Carly Pope. Although the school has an extensive arts program, Cobie claims to have been more interested in science and sports.

She did appear in several school productions, but instead was discovered by a modeling agency. Still in her teens, she modeled internationally, in locations including New York City, the Caribbean, Paris, Japan, Milan, Greece, Africa and Germany. At graduation, her classmates voted Cobie "most respected."

Deciding to pursue acting, in 2002, Cobie got her first role locally, on the Sci-Fi Channel series Jeremiah in a one-episode guest spot. Her first big role was on the ABC series Veritas: The Quest, but the show was cancelled after one season. She made guest spots on various TV shows, including Smallville and appeared in Walking Tall alongside The Rock.

Relocated to Hollywood, Cobie landed her biggest part yet, as Canadian broadcast journalist Robin Scherbatsky on CBS's How I Met Your Mother. Despite middling ratings, The show has been around for three years thanks in large part to Smulders' smoldering performance.

On May 16, 2009, Cobie gave birth to a daughter, Shaelyn Cado Killam, with her boyfriend Taran Killam. The couple did not reveal the birth until July. Six months earlier, they announced their engagement but did not set a wedding date.
