Yelena Vyacheslavovna Dementyeva (born October 15, 1981, Moscow) is a professional tennis player from Russia, who has won two Olympic medals for women's singles, including the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Dementieva is currently ranked World No. 4 and she is the highest ranked Russian player.
Elena enjoys a life away from the limelight when off court, but has stated she enjoys snowboarding, baseball, reading and traveling. She currently resides between homes in Monte Carlo, Monaco, Moscow, Russia and Boca Raton, Florida, USA. She has been in a relationship with ice hockey star Maxim Afinogenov from the Buffalo Sabres since 2005.
