Elisabeth Bachman is a former volleyball player who represented the USA in the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece where her team finished fifth. She played as a middle blocker when she joined the team in 2001 and in 2003 she was named "Best Blocker" when her team won the gold in the Pan American Games in Mexico. Her husband is Hugh McCutcheon who is the coach of the U.S men's volleyball team. But tragedy was to strike in 2008 when her parents, Todd and Barbara were respectively killed and crtically injured in an incident in Beijing when they attended the 2008 Games. A 47 year old Chinese man called Yang Tongming assaulted them at the Drum Tower before he committed suicide.
