Georgia Slowe (born 3 June 1966 in North London) is an English actress.
Georgia grew up in a traditional Jewish home as the daughter of two Jewish parents, Michael and Zsuzsanna. Her Hungarian-born mother, also known as Zsuzsi was hidden in a cellar during the Second World War after her parents were captured by Nazi soldiers. Georgia's grandmother, Litzy was murdered on the banks of the Danube, by being stripped, shot and pushed into a freezing lake, along with many other women. Her grandfather survived the Holocaust and was reunited with his young daughter after the liberation.
Zsuzsi escaped the country after the 1956 revolution at the age of 15. Georgia's father, Michael, is of Russian descent. Her surname Slowe was changed from Slovedinski by her great-grandfather. She has one sister, Tania, who is three years older than she.
She began acting when she was a child and in a career that has spanned nearly 30 years, she has worked alongside Oliver Reed (Black Arrow), Angela Lansbury (The Company of Wolves) and Richard Chamberlain (Wallenberg). As a member of the RSC, Georgia has starred in numerous theatre productions over the years, including Romeo and Juliet, where she played the doomed heroine twice, alongside Mark Rylance and David Harewood. She and David had a short relationship during the production. In 1989, Georgia was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Romeo & Juliet. Her Jewish heritage allowed Georgia to bring some authenticity to the roles she got in two productions which were based on the Holocaust; The Attic: The Hiding of Anne Frank with Mary Steenburgen and Wallenberg with Richard Chamberlain In 2006, Georgia landed a role in long running serial drama Emmerdale as the new lady of the manor, Perdita Hyde-Sinclair. Georgia has now left the show and her final appearance was broadcast on 22 July 2008, an episode which proved to be a ratings winner, when it beat BBC soap EastEnders in the ratings battle, the first time in over 3 months, it has managed to do so. Currently writing a script for a television sitcom with comedian and actor Alistair Barrie.
Georgia married fashion designer, Ray Kelvin the founder of the Ted Baker clothing chain, in May, 1993. The following year she gave birth to their first son, Benjamin in November 1994, followed 18 months later by their second son, Joshua, in May 1996. Despite a flourishing career, Georgia took 10 years off to dedicate herself to her husband and children and after she and Kelvin divorced in 2000, following their separation in 1999, she totally devoted herself to her sons until she joined Emmerdale in 2006. Georgia commented later, in a magazine interview, that the break up of her marriage devastated her.
