Gloria De Piero, (born December 21 1972), is a British political journalist working for the independent breakfast television station GMTV.
Gloria was born in Bradford. She attended the Yorkshire Martyrs Catholic College on Westgate Hill Street (A650) in south-east Bradford from 1987-91. She did her A levels at Bradford and Ilkley College, where she was the Student Union President. She was educated at the University of Central England from 1991 (now called Birmingham City University since 2007), where she was the President of the Student Union from 1994-5. She completed a masters degree in London.
She became a party official for the Labour Party. She began her journalistic career as a researcher on Jonathan Dimbleby's TV programme in 1997. She then moved to the BBC where she worked at On the Record, The Politics Show and BBC Radio 4's Westminster Hour where she produced and reported on the Palace of Westminster. Since 2003 she had been the political correspondent for GMTV. Gloria is also an occasional presenter on the Weekend Breakfast programme on BBC Radio 5 Live.
In 2008 she was voted the 85th sexiest woman in the world in the FHM readers' poll.
In February 2010, De Piero resigned from GMTV in order to seek selection as the Labour Party's candidate for the Ashfield constituency in the 2010 General Election. The position became available following the announcement that the constituency's Labour MP, Geoff Hoon, a former Defence Secretary, would be stepping down at the Election. On 20 March 2010, De Piero was selected by the local Labour Party as its candidate. She was narrowly elected to the seat with a mere majority of just 192 votes (down from the 10,000 majority) after a massive swing to the Liberal Democrats.
Her partner is The Observer's media correspondent, James Robinson. According to the Daily Mail De Piero "posed topless when she was 15 years old".
