Gong Li Introduction
Gong Li is a Chinese actress who is best known for her work in Zhang Yimou films such as Raise the Red Lantern and Ju Dou. She has also starred in several Hollywood films such as Maimi Vice (also starring Naomie Harris and Elizabeth Rodriguz) and Hannibal Rising (also starring Helena Lia Tachovska).
Gong Li Life Story
Gong Li pursued acting when she was of very young age. When she graduated high school she was accepted to the Bejing Central College of Drama where director Zhang Yimou discovered her and put her in his first film. Soon the two began a romantic relationship as well as professional. Zhang put Gong in all of his films, including the Oscar winner Raise the Red Lantern. The relationship ended in 1995 and Gong Li married a tobacco tycoon the next year. Random. Gong Li’s career continued to thrive as she made the leap to English speaking movies. In 2005 she starred in Memoirs of a Geisha, also starring Zhang Ziyi, a film that was a critical and box office hit. She followed up the success with two more English films: Miami Vice and Hannibal Rising. Gong Li currently married to Singaporean tobacco tycoon Ooi Hoe Soeng, though they are currently separated.
