This beauty was discovered by an agent while working as a coat check girl in a New York City restaurant. Though no reports exist as to whether or not she was any good at this job, one doubts she received any complaints from the male customers. Her first acting gig was in a Coke commercial.

Vanity Fair put her on its cover and proclaimed her the next megastar after she was cast in the films Rounders (Famke Janssen) and Celebrity (Winona Ryder, Charlize Theron). Somebody probably should have told this to the American public who decided en masse to ignore those two flicks. She’s had parts in smaller yet well-received independent films since then but hasn’t become nearly as famous as was predicted.

She currently lives in New York City with her son and husband Kip Willaims (who, strangely, used to be married to Gretchen’s Rounders costar Famke Janssen). She recently made waves by starring in The Notorious Bettie Page (Tara Subkoff). She played the title character, a famous nude model from the 1950s. She spent large sections of the movie in pin-up girl gear and sometimes even less. It’s clearly the role Gretchen was born to play.
