Born in Fullerton, California, she joined her brother’s band “No Doubt” when she was 15. Her brother would go on to leave the band he founded and the band would go on to blow up. Their album Tragic Kingdom sold more than 16 million copies and was certified platinum even though most of the songs on the album are about Gwen’s break up with bassist Tony Kanal.

She had long been admired as a fashion icon and in 2004 her own fashion line L.A.M.B was launched. The line was immediately popular with celebrities like Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Terri Hatcher. She expanded the collection in 2005 to include less expensive products.

As a solo artist she collaborated with Moby on his single “South Side” and won a Grammy with Eve for the song “Let me Blow ya Mind.” Her debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. (2004) sold more than 7 million copies. Her second Album The Sweet Escape (2006) peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Chart.

She continues to compose both music and clothing and has made a conceded effort to become an actress. She was cast as Jean Harlow in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator (Cate Blanchet, Kate Beckinsale). To prepare for the role she read two biographies and watched 18 of Harlow’s film even though the part was relatively small.

In June 2012, Gwen made an appearance on the popular television show, American Idol.
