Helen Slater was born Helen Rachel Schlacter to Gerald Schlacter and Alice Joan Citrin, in Massapequa, Long Island, New York. After appearing in many shows as a child, she attended the New York High School of Performing Acts, graduating in 1982 before making her acting debut that same year in the TV film Amy and the Angel. Then, two years later in 1984, she appeared in the film Supergirl and the movie was filmed in England between January and April 1984. Sadly the film received mixed reviews and the film itself later gained a cult following.
Other films have included The Legend of Billie Jean (1985), Ruthless People (1986), The Secret of My Success (1987),Sticky Fingers (1988) and City Slickers (1991). Then, in 1990 she married award-winning editor Robert Watzke and they have a daughter who was born in 1995.
