Jessie James Life Story
Jessie James is a self-described "military brat." She was born on a U.S. military base in Italy and moved around for the rest of her childhood to such places as Boise, ID, Fort Knox, KY, Copperas Cove, TX, Orlando, FL, Baton Rouge, LA, and San Antonio, TX, before finally settling in Georgia.
She began singing at age 2 and sang in various talent shows as a kid, winning the first one she entered. In high school, James took road trips during the weekends from Atlanta to Nashville, Tennessee, to practice songwriting. A demo for her song "My Cowboy" eventually made its way to Mercury Records president David Massey, who arranged a live audition for her at Island Def Jam headquarters in New York. She quickly signed to IDJ and recorded the song "Blue Jeans" that was featured in the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009). Her first single "Wanted", co-written with Kara Dioguardi, hit the Billboard Hot 100 and started to get Jessie noticed.
In June 2009, Jessie opened several shows on the Jonas Brothers tour. No word on how the purity ring wearing brothers survived in the presence of Jessie.
Her self titled debut album was released on August 11, 2009, and features a song co-written by Katy Perry. Jessie got some more buzz for the pre-album release from the press when multiple sources revealed she'd been hit on by John Mayer two years earlier.
