Kelly Preston

Kelly Preston is an actress most famous for her marriage to mega-star John Travolta. However, she’s a star in her own right, having starred in dozens of films. At the moment, she’s putting her career on the back burner to focus on the children she’s had with Travolta, and on their religion, Scientology.

Kelly Preston was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and lived there her childhood, except for fifteen months spent in Iraq when her father went there for work. Kelly came Stateside, and studied acting at the University of Southern California and at the University of California. Shortly thereafter, she was spotted by a fashion photographer who helped her land roles in television commercials. He even got her an audition for Brook Shield’s part in The Blue Lagoon, but she lost out on it for being “too sultry.” Is that a bad thing?

While establishing her career in the ‘80s, and landing various film and television roles, Kelly dated around. Early on, she dated George Clooney, and gave him his famous pet pig, Max (which just died in 2006). She was next married to Kevin Gage, who’s most memorable as the psycho in Michael Mann’s film, Heat. After that, she lived with Charlie Sheen – Hey, is there a female in Southern California who hasn’t? Charlie even proposed, but Kelly denied him. Apparently, she wasn’t into sharing her husband with all the high priced call girls in Hollywood. Kelly and Travolta met in 1989, and were married in 1991.

Kelly was just a guest at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ wedding in Italy (fellow Scientologists). She and John Travolta have two children, and she’s put her career on the back burner to attend to them. Their first child, Jett, was diagnosed with Kawasaki’s Syndrome, an illness that presents itself through asthma attacks and allergies. Kelly now dedicates much of her time to the Children’s Health Environmental Coalition, which helps educate parents about how to deal with childrens’ illnesses.
