Khandi Alexander Life Story
Alexander was born and raised in New York City. In her younger years she studied dance and ballet. When she was 17 legendary Broadway director Bob Fosse approached her on the street and got her to audition for his shows. She was subsequently cast in Chicago and Dreamgirls on Broadway. She also went to college at Queensboro Community College. From 1988-92 Alexander choreographed Whitney Houston's world tours. Bored with the world of Whitney Houston, Alexander turned her attention to acting on the screen.
Alexander's earliest roles came in movies like Menace II Society and House Party 3, where she co-starred alongside Kid's flattop. By 1995, Alexander landed two long term TV gigs. The first was on News Radio which co-starred Joe Rogan and Phil Hartman. The second was ER, the hospital drama. She stayed on News Radio for three years, and on ER for six. Following the end of her time on ER, Alexander was snatched up quickly by producers for CSI: Miami, the spinoff to the smash hit CSI. On CSI: Miami, she playes Miami Chief Medical Examiner, Alexx Woods. Since 2002, Alexander has been in over 130 episodes of the show, while also making guest appearances on the original CSI and CSI: New York. Aside from CSI, Alexander has also done some movies recently. In 2007 she had roles in the movies Rain and First Born. Outside of acting, Alexander is an advocate for various causes and charities.
