Kristen Bell is an American actress who is best known for her lead role on the CW (formerly UPN) show Veronica Mars. Thanks to Veronica Mars, Kristen Bell has won the hearts of the youth of America who have fallen in love with her girl-next door sweet disposition. She has popularized the "Geek Chic" girl. Pushing 30, she could still pull off a teenager in her sleep.
Kristen Anne Bell was born July 18, 1980 in Huntington Woods, Michigan. She is the daughter of Tom Bell and Lorelei Bell. At the tender age of two Bell's parents divorced. Kristen has two stepsisters, Sara and Jody. Not liking her name at the age of four Kristen decided to change it to "Smurfette." Her mom was able to persuade her otherwise. Kristen would use her middle name, Annie, until high school.
At Shrine Catholic High School (where she was voted most attractive girl in the yearbook) she starred in many school productions; The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the Roof, Lady Be Good, and Li'l Abner.
After high school Kristen moved to New York and attended New York University's prestigous Tisch School of the Arts where she majored in musical theater.
In 2001 Bell would leave NYU a few credits shy of graduation to take part in the short-lived Broadway production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as Becky Thatcher. Later in 2001 Bell received her first credited film debut in the cult-hit Pootie Tang (2001) (her line was cut from the film and can only be seen in the credits).
In 2003 Kristen Bell landed her most notable role as the teen super-sleuth Veronica Mars on UPN (now CW). The show garnered critical acclaim and a cult following (often compared with the long-lived Buffy series). However, poor viewership only allowed the show to go on for three seasons. Even as the lead on Veronica Mars Bell remained a relative unknown in young Hollywood.
She landed a role in Showtime's Reefer Madness in 2004, a musical rendition of the 1963 film of the same name. She preforms along side Christian Campbell, Neve Campbell, Alan Cumming, Ana Gasteyer and Steven Weber playing Mary Lane a straight edge girl who's boy interest Jimmy Harper (Christian Campbell) as found the path of destruction eventually pulling her into it (just long enough to do a hot dominatrix scene).
Not until her next major television role would she attract the deserved attention of the media. Bell, at first rumored to be in negotiations for a spot on the ABC hit Lost, was cast as Elle Bishop on NBC's break-out sensation, Heroes. In 2007, Kristen took the part as the narrator for the CW's Gossip Girl.
Her breakout film performance came in 2008, when she played the title character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008). Kristen's next film, Fanboys (2008), will be released on February 6, 2009 after being delayed for almost 2-1/2 years. 2009 will saw Bell starring in a slew of movies including Serious Moonlight (2009), When in Rome (2009), Sheepish (2009) and the animated film Astro Boy (2009).
She currently stars on the Showtime series "House of Lies."
Kristen made the 2012 Maxim Hot 100 list, coming in at number 61.
