Introduction
Much like Scarlett Johansson, Kristen Stewart refused to make ridiculous "kid films" when she was a kid actress. As a result, Stewart is on the verge of becoming an A-list Hollywood actress.
Personal Life
Stewart was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Her father, John Stewart (not to be confused with The Daily Show's Jon Stewart), is a stage manager and television producer who worked for FOX. Her mother, a native of Australia, is a screenwriter. She has an older brother, Cameron. Stewart is an avid surfer and currently lives with her family in Los Angeles.
Career
Stewart had a minor role in the 1999 made-for-television film The Thirteenth Year, and subsequently appeared in the independent film The Safety of Objects (2001) where she played the tomboy daughter of a troubled single mother (Patricia Clarkson). Stewart had a role in the major Hollywood film Panic Room (2002), playing the sullen, diabetic daughter of a divorced mother (Jodie Foster). While the film received mixed reviews, Stewart garnered positive notices for the role.
After Panic Room's success, Stewart was cast in another thriller, Cold Creek Manor (2003), playing the daughter of Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone's characters; the film generally failed at the box office. Her first starring role followed, in the children's action-comedy Catch That Kid (2004), opposite Max Thieriot and Corbin Bleu. To date, Stewart’s most critically acclaimed role may be in the television film Speak (2004), based on the novel by Laurie Halse Anderson. Stewart, thirteen at the time of filming, played a high school freshman who is raped and has to deal with emotional turmoil. Stewart has received great praise for playing the character, who had only a few speaking lines.
Stewart appeared in the fantasy-adventure film Zathura (2005), in In the Land of Women (2007), a romantic drama starring Meg Ryan and Adam Brody, and in Academy Award winner Sean Penn's critically acclaimed film, Into the Wild (2007). She also co-starred in The Cake Eaters (2007) and The Yellow Handkerchief (2008), which was filmed in Louisiana. She recently starred in Adventureland (2009) which was filmed in Pittsburgh, PA, and finished shooting Welcome to the Rileys (2009) in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On November 16, 2007, Summit Entertainment announced that Stewart would play Bella Swan in the movie Twilight (2008), (based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire/human romance of the same name) opposite Robert Pattinson who would play Edward Cullen. The film was released on November 21, 2008, grossed over $190 million at the U.S. box office, and Kristen Stewart's life will probably never be the same.
In December 2008, it was announced that Kristen will be playing Joan Jett in a forthcoming biopic entitled "The Runaways," to be released in 2010. She will also reprise her role of Bella Swan in the Twilight sequels New Moon (2009) and Eclipse (2010).
