Kyra Sedgwick

Kyra Sedgwick is a Golden Globe Award winning American actress best known to audiences for her lead role in the hit television show, The Closer, and for being married to “Mr. Six-Degrees,” actor Kevin Bacon. It may not be easy marrying into a family with the last name of a pork product, but Kyra has made an admirable run of things.

Kyra was born in New York City to Patricia, a speech therapist mother, and Henry Dwight, a venture capitalist father. She comes from old money, and is a descendent of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. In addition, Kyra is a first cousin of actress Edie Sedgwick, who starred in Andy Warhol’s early films.

Kyra’s acting career began at the age of 16 when she landed a part on the television soap Another World. However, after a few addition roles in her late teens, Kyra put acting on the backburner and traveled to USC to attend college. Kyra’s career really picked up after graduation, when she landed the part of Tom Cruise’s girlfriend in the 1989 Oliver Stone film, Born on the Fourth of July. Kyra’s career continued to climb throughout the ‘90s with roles in Singles (1992), Murder in the First (1995), Phenomenon (1996), Montana (1998), and others.

It’s Kyra’s current project, the one-hour television drama, The Closer, which has won her a Golden Globe for Best Actress, and is her most notable role to date. The Closer began in 2005, and continues to run strong. While acting and producing the show, Kyra maintains her family life with husband Kevin Bacon, and their two children. The family splits time between Los Angeles, and their home in Connecticut (where Kyra can go to hide out from having to watch too many Bacon Bros performances…This is the “rock” band that Kevin plays in with his brother). Every person in Hollywood is supposedly six-degrees removed from Kevin Bacon, so that raises two very interesting questions. Is everyone in Hollywood seven-degrees from Kyra? And, how much does Kevin have to be away from home to maintain this status?

In 2008, she got an Emmy nomination in the Actress in a Drama Series category for her work on "The Closer". And in 2010 Kyra won an Emmy for her role in The Closer for Outstanding Actress a Drama series.
