Leah Cairns Introduction
Leah Cairns is yet another smoking hot actress out of Vancouver to have roles on every single sci-fi series on television. She is perhaps best known for her role as Lt. Margaret "Racetrack" Edmondson, on the Sci Fi Channel original series "Battlestar Galactica."
Leah Cairns Life Story
Cairns was born and raised in British Columbia and dreamed of becoming a professional dancer. Those dreams were dashed at age 16 when an idiot drunk driver smashed into Leah's car, breaking her back.
After getting out of the hospital she headed off to Costa Rica, starting an eight-year backpacking odyssey that took her to 36 countries. Prior to returning to Canada, she stumbled into an improvisation class at an ashram in India, and caught the acting bug. Only intending on acting as a hobby she was initially turned away from the class as it was only for professionals. A month later, however, the instructor mistakenly called Leah and invited her to attend. She did. By the end of her first class she decided to try acting professionally and a career was born.
Leah Cairns Career
Leah's first on-screen role was on "The Chris Isaak Show" in 2002 where she played Girlfriend #1. (So if she was Girlfriend #1, would there really be a need for Girlfriend #2?) Next came a small part in The Mall Man (2003), and a guest spot on "Tru Calling" in 2003. Her first starring role was in the movie Thralls (2004) (aka Blood Angels) where she played the role of Leslie, a sexy, ass kicking half vampire.
Since then, she has appeared in numerous TV shows, including “Supernatural,” “Saved,” "Sanctuary," and "Robson Arms." She appeared along side Bradley Cooper and Jason Priestly in I Want To Marry Ryan Banks (2004), a TV movie that spoofed reality TV shows. She's starred in CityTv's "Godiva's," where she was nominated for a 2006 Leo Award (British Columbia's version of the Emmys) for Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series.
Leah landed her job on the critically acclaimed show “Battlestar Galactica” despite running face first into a bathroom stall door while rushing to get to her audition which she was already late for. She believes that the pain in her face added to the intensity of the scene. In preparation for her audition, she watched the air fights in Top Gun (1986) 15 times. She got the part and was only meant to appear in one episode. Impressed with her performance as the bitter raptor pilot "Racetrack" she was kept on the show and has appeared in almost 30 episodes. During her season 3 BSG hiatus, she signed on to play the role of Emily Hollander on the ABC Family series "Kyle XY."
Recently, Leah appeared in the movie 88 Minutes (2007) as the love interest of Al Pacino’s character. (Good one!) The movie was panned by critics as one of the worst films of the year, but in the opening scene Leah is seen totally naked, in an dance position, brushing her teeth, while pulling her left leg up above her head. (Must add to Neflix queue right now.) Up next for Leah is the movie Helen (2008) which stars Ashley Judd.
