Mae West (August 17, 1893 – November 22, 1980) was an American actress, playwright, screenwriter, and sex symbol. She is best remembered for her voluptuous figure and being the first woman to make racy comments on film. She is probably best remembered for her parts in the films "She Done Him Wrong" in 1933 opposite a very young Cary Grant, and the highly successful comedy "My Little Chickadee" opposite fellow former Vaudville comedian W.C. Fields in 1940.

Mae began her career as a child star in vaudeville, and later as a young woman, went on to write her own plays, including "SEX", for which she was arrested and spent ten days in jail on obscenity charges in 1926. In her later years, she made a cameo appearance in the 1970 film farce "Myra Breckinrigde" opposite fellow cinematic sex symbol Raquel Welch, and eight years later, in 1978, at the age of 84, the film "Sextette", where she appeared in a musical scene with a male harem-like chorus. "Sextette" would also be her last film appearance.

Over the course of her entertainment career, Mae would still make appear in stage productions and periodic appearances on television. Although she only appeared in only 12 feature films in 46 years, she was named the #15 Actress on The American Film Institutes list of the 50 Greatest Screen Legends.
