Malinda Williams is an American actress who has done a slew of television and movie roles, but is perhaps best known for her starring role in the Showtime series Soul Food, as the younger sister, Tracy “Bird” Van Adams. Malinda was nominated twice for NAACP Image Awards for this work. Most recently, she was featured in Young Buck’s video for “Shorty Wanna Ride.” Indeed, this shorty “did want to ride,” as it were, all the way to the top of Hollywood.

Malinda Williams grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey, and attended Union County College in nearby Cranford, New Jersey. She then went on to study acting at the Actor’s Conservatory in New York City. Malinda’s first big break came when she landed a part on The Cosby Show.

Following her spot on The Cosby Show, many more television roles followed, including appearances on Miami Vice; My So-Called Life; Sister, Sister, Moesha; NYPD Blue; and Law & Order: SVU. Her substantial role in 2000’s Showtime series Soul Food, really put Malinda on the map as a star. Since then, she’s booked other starring roles in feature films such as the Outkast produced Idlewild (2006), and the television series Windfall (2006).

Malinda shares a son with Mekhi Phifer, but is now in a relationship with former Boogie Down Productions member D-Nice. Hopefully, he is treating her D-Nicely. In addition to continuing her film and television work, Malinda has recently launched her own lingerie line, Modern Goddess.
