Michelle Ingrid Williams is an Academy Award-nominated actress. Williams broke into stardom on the teen series Dawson’s Creek and later graduated to full length features, such as Brokeback Mountain, for which she earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. In the film, she realized that on-screen husband Heath Ledger was most certainly “not doin’ no fishin’ up there in Brokeback.”
At an early age, Williams took interest in acting. With her parents' disapproval, at age fifteen Williams emancipated herself from her parents and graduated from high school, in order to pursue her acting career. Apparently running away from home is no good these days.
Williams' father is a noted stock and commodities trader and had taught her about trading. In 1997 at age 16 she won the Robbins World Cup Trading Championship, the same as her father won in 198, when it was known as “Gordon Gekko’s Lil’ Sharks.” She turned $10,000 into $110,000 over the course of a year and that gain (as of 2006) is the fourth highest in the competition (her father's being the highest). And now we begin to understand why emancipation became an option.
Williams' first film role was in the motion picture Species. Soon after, she won additional roles, including the Jessica Lange-Michelle Pfeiffer film A Thousand Acres, and Halloween: H20. Both films frightened audiences worldwide. However, it was in 1998 when Williams was cast as Jen Lindley on the hit WB show Dawson’s Creek that helped to put her on the map. We’re still trying to figure out that show’s draw. It must have been Michelle, because van der Beekhas no charisma.
Since Brokeback Mountain, Williams has quickly gained employment in several highly anticipated films, like The Hottest State with Ethan Hawke, and the Bob Dylan biopic I’m Not There, which used to be known as I’m Not Singing; I’m Mumbling Incoherently. She is signed to film projects with directors Woody Allen, Charlie Kauffman and Spike Jonze, so we can rest assured that we’ll be seeing Michelle spewing some really hipster and/or neurotic lines for some time. Did you know that Charlie Kauffman and Spike Jonze, when they stand together, are “so hip you’re face hurts?” It’s true.
Williams was engaged to Australian actor Heath Ledger, and gave birth to their daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger, who has a surprisingly normal name for a celeb baby. Matilda will probably grow up to be really good looking. Michelle and Heath split up recently, though. Sucks. If they had gotten married, she would now be a widow. That really sucks.
Michelle received a 2011 Oscars nomination, but lost to Natalie Portman.
In October 2011, Michelle stars in the movie, My Week with Marilyn, where actor Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier's, documents the tense interaction between Olivier and Marilyn Monroe during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.
In an 2012, Michelle won the Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, for her role in the movie, My week with Marilyn.
