Natsumi Abe (born August 10, 1981 in Hokkaido, Japan) is a former member of the Hello! Project mothership group Morning Musume, and a current solo artist under the Hello! Project banner. Nacchi isn't known for much other than her incredibly sweet and innocent disposition, despite some rumors that she was a turtle-killer circulating a few years back...as well as her multiple-times proven lack of understanding copyright laws...but if either of those are ever brought up, you can bet that Nacchi will dodge the question, and be extra cute doing so.

Abe was one of the five original members of the group. She graduated in 2004.

Natsumi Abe Career

Abe was one of the five runner-ups in a 1997 contest to find a new female vocalist for the rock band Sharan Q. Tsunku, the producer, gave the five a challenge: sell 50,000 copies of their demo single in five days, and he would produce them as their own act. Abe and the other four met the challenge in four days. They were dubbed Morning Musume.

Though Kaori Iida was originally the lead vocalist for many early Morning Musume singles, Tsunku later switched all the leads over to Abe. Their sixth single, Furusato, in fact featured Abe as the only lead vocal with the other six girls singing backup.

In 2003, Morning Musume was split into two: Otomegumi and Sakuragumi. Abe was placed into Sakuragumi, and was the group's leader until her graduation in 2004. Mari Yaguchi took over after her departure.

In 2003, Abe formed a short duo with Keiko Yosumi to prepare for her solo career.

Since her graduation, Abe has been a member of three "one-shot" groups, two of which grouped her with Maki Goto and Aya Matsuura. Rika Ishikawa was also a member of one of those groups. Each group disbanded after releasing one single.

As of now, Abe has released two full albums, one mini-album, and ten singles. She has also collaborated with Maimi Yajima (ten years her junior) on a single about being 16 years old.
