Nina Dobrev Introduction
Nina Dobrev was born in Bulgaria, and instead of hanging around the old country making goulash, she moved to the land of maple syrup (Canada, eh) and became a star. Nina has risen to fame on the hit Canadian television show, "Degrassi: The Next Generation." The show’s in its eighth season, and Nina has earned legion of fans by playing a single teenage mother, Mia Jones. She currently stars as Elena Gilbert on The CW series "The Vampire Diaries."
Nina Dobrev Life Story
Nina was born in Bulgaria, and moved to Canada at the tender age of two years old. Nina competed in gymnastics, on an international level, while growing up. However, when she entered her teens she decided to switch from a pursuit of the flexible arts, to acting. Her parents were able to get her into the Dean Armstrong Acting school. She landed several film and TV movie parts while in high school, and balanced both her studies and work. As if that weren’t impressive enough, Nina became fluent in French (her third language after Bulgarian and English).
Currently, she’s starring in the hit show, "Degrassi: The Next Generation." Despite sounding like some sort of Star Trek spin off, Degrassi is actually a soap set in a high school. Teen angst, it’s hot in Canada, eh? Nina is also starting her post secondary studies at Ryerson University in Toronto. Nina’s majoring in Sociology (in case her red hot acting career falls apart for some reason). Nina also recently traveled to Africa with five fellow members of the Degrassi cast to build a school in Kenya with the renowned organization "Free The Children". A documentary about the trip aired on MTV Canada and The N in America.
Recently, Nina starred in the MTV movie The American Mall (2008). This movie was MTV's pathetic attempt to ripoff "High School Musical." But Nina and Autumn Reeser are in the movie, so maybe you can just watch it with the sound off.
In 2008, rumors began circulating online that Nina would be in the Transformers sequel, but she stated several times that it wasn't true. In an interview with CTV she said, "There's nothing -- it's just a rumour and I have no idea how it started. I wish it was true, but I would have had to audition! But after the rumour started, casting people for the movie actually called my agent, so now they know about me. I'm crossing my fingers for Transformers 3."
Like Shenae Grimes, Nina has been plucked from the halls of Degrassi to star on a show for The CW network. Nina has been cast as the female lead, Elena, in the new teenage vamp series "The Vampire Diaries," which debuted in the Fall of 2009. The first episode garnered the highest ratings for any series premiere in the short history of The CW network. The show is produced by Kevin Williamson of "Scream" and "Dawson’s Creek" fame and based on the series of vampire books that predate the "Twilight" books by about 14 years. So to set the record straight, shamelessly cashing in on the vampire craze: Yes. Ripping-off Twilight: No.
Nina plans to continue to aid African youth when not attending college classes and working on her show. Hey, she should have plenty of spare time – No sweat. Her work ethic raises the question of whether or not Bulgarians sleep. Nina, please enlighten us.
