Introduction

Paula Garcés is a Colombian-born film and television actress best known for her role as Officer Tina Hanlon in the FX series "The Shield."

Early Life

Garcés' father was a fisherman and her mother was a dance teacher. Moving from her birthplace of Medellin, Colombia, to the United States at a young age, Garcés started acting in commercials through her talent agent, Diego Santiago, her father's best friend. Garcés later pursued a mini-stint career in kickboxing and as a personal trainer in New York City.

Career

Paula's early acting roles included guest spots on "Law & Order," "New York Undercover," and "The Guiding Light." She also landed movie roles in Life with Mikey (1993) and Dangerous Minds (1995). She first drew a lot of attention when she starred in the 2002 teen sci-fi adventure, Clockstoppers (2002). Paula was then cast in Richard Benjamin's hip-hop comedy Marci X (2003) opposite Lisa Kudrow and Damon Wayans.

Garces was next seen with Monica Keena and Christina Milian in Man of the House (2005). She starred in National Lampoon's Pledge This! (2006) along side Paris Hilton and Sarah Carter. She was also featured on "CSI: Miami" and in 2005, starred in a six episode arc on NBC's "Law and Order: Special Victims Unit" as well as guest spots on HBO's hit series, "The Sopranos" and "Oz." While filming "Law & Order: SVU," Garces was offered a role as a new cast member on the FX series "The Shield." Paula continued working on "The Shield" until 2008.

Garces was in both Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004) and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008). She'll be in the upcoming films Gtimo (2009) and Flights of Fancy (2009).

Paula is now working behind the cameras as Executive Producer to the animated film Red Princess Blues Animated: The Book of Violence (2007). She can also be heard voicing the lead character, Princess, in the animated film, which is a prequel to the live action feature film she will be starring in and co-producing with writer, director Alex Ferrari.

Paula was voted #67 in Maxim Magazine's "Hot 100 of 2002."
