In the early 2000s, she guest-starred on both "Law & Order" and "Law & Order: SVU," and had a role Uptown Girls (2003). In 2005, she briefly appeared in the Jim Jarmusch film Broken Flowers (2005) and earned her first starring role for the film Undiscovered (2005).

Between 2005 and 2007, she appeared in a number of indie films which included Confess (2005), The King (2005), Neighborhood Watch (2005), and Satellite (2006). In 2007, she had a memorable scene in David Fincher's Zodiac (2007). Coming up Pell will be in Surveillance (2008), and the hotly anticipated Fanboys (2008). Other fims on the horizon for Pell include Against the Current (2009), The Tree of Life (2009), and Shrink (2009).
