Penny Drake Official Biography
Born in San Antonio, TX, Penny Drake was quickly on the move, uprooting 10 times before the age of 19. With so many location changes, Penny was introverted and kept only to a small group of friends. Being the daughter of a Southern Baptist pastor and living primarily in isolated rural towns, she was ensured a sheltered life full of rules and regulations that kept her on the straight and narrow.
After moving to Austin, TX, in 1997, Penny was finally close enough to civilization to widen her horizons. Attending the University of Texas, with its diverse student population, made it possible for her to mingle with other cultures, religions and political beliefs. At the same time, holding a job with several promotional companies throughout her college career helped Penny to become a more social creature and break out of her shell.
In December 2002, she graduated U.T. with a degree in Photojournalism. She worked for a short term within the journalism field, which helped her realize that this was not her passion in life. On an instinctual whim, Penny contacted one of the local Austin talent agencies and was soon at her first national commercial audition, which she landed. Her first film experience was soon to follow, when she was cast as an Old Town Girl in Robert Rodriguez's Sin City, which featured her in eight scenes.
Her first day on a professional green screen set was spent face to face with Mickey Rourke in an improvisational scene. She had found her passion. Quickly she submitted to projects in the Los Angeles area and landed a strong supporting role in Monarch of the Moon, a satire of 1940s sci-fi films that premiered at Comic Con, NY, in 2006. She relocated to Los Angeles, CA, in December 2004. After doing a few small roles in The 40 Year Old Virgin and The Slaughter, Penny landed her first lead in the psychological thriller, Dreamkiller. Next came a supporting role in The Cook, lead in an ensemble in You're So Dead and lead in an ensemble in Zombie Strippers, a political, comedy horror flick, also starring Robert Englund, Joey Medina and Jenna Jameson. Penny currently costars an online sketch comedy show, Bikini News on LiveVideo.com, which has been in production since August 2006.
