Introduction

Rachel Williams is a big-boned American supermodel of the late ’80s and early ’90s who eventually moved to the UK and took up a relationship with a female pop singer. In other words, she’s awesome.

Life Story

Born in Greenwich Village, New York, in 1967, Rachel got a relatively late start in the modeling game, first posing for fashion-magazine lenses at age 21. From 1988 to 1992, she appeared inside and on the covers of Elle, Cosmopolitan and Vogue and shot successful ad campaigns for Absolut, Revlon and Calvin Klein. At 6’1” and 140 pounds, Rachel had a distinct size advantage over her waif-like colleagues, a physical edge she showcased quite clearly in photo essays for Playboy in 1992 and Penthouse in 1995. The massive model known as The Amazon was even at the center of a bitter legal battle—is there any other kind?—between Click Model Management and Ford Models, after Christy Turlington persuaded her to make the switch from Click to Ford.

She’s also dabbled in TV. Along with Sara Cox, Rachel was one of the presenters of the UK late-night gossip fest The Girlie Show, and in 2000 she appeared in an episode of Strangers with Candy (Amy Sedaris) as “Dr. Rachel Williams, Supermodel.”

Having lived in the UK for quite some time, Rachel now shares a flat with former British pop singer Alice Temples. Says Rachel of the all-female relationship: “I never thought to hide it. I’ve had flings with women before.” We don’t think she should hide it, either. In fact, with camcorders being as inexpensive as they are these days, we wouldn’t mind if the relationship got even less hidden, if you know what we mean…and we think you do.
