Risa Niigaki Introduction

Risa Niigaki is a Japanese pop singer and sub-leader of the Hello! Project mothership group Morning Musume. Niigaki joined the group in August of 2001 as a member of the fifth generation. She is famously known as being the group's "Reaction Queen" - Niigaki will overreact to everything from surprises to getting a strawberry-flavored shaved ice.

Risa Niigaki Career

Prior to joining Morning Musume, Niigaki was a children's magazine model, active in 2000. She stopped her work as a model when she auditioned for Morning Musume in 2001. She was selected to become a member of the fifth generation.

Niigaki made her debut in Morning Musume on their 13th single, "Mr. Moonlight ~Ai no Big Band~" in October 2001. She released her first album with the group, 4th ikimasshoi! in March 2002.

Additionally, Niigaki became member of the Morning Musume subgroup Tanpopo in September 2002. She released only one single with them before they were put on an indefinite hiatus.

Morning Musume was split into two groups in 2003: Otomegumi and Sakuragumi. Niigaki was placed in Sakuragumi, and released two singles with them before they went on hiatus in 2004.

In early 2007, Niigaki became a member of Morning Musume Tanjou 10nen Kinentai, created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hello! Project. They released two singles before halting their work due to personal issues concerning the members.

Also in 2007, the pregnancy of Nozomi Tsuji forced her to leave the anime project Robby & Kerobby. Niigaki replaced her as the voice of Athena, singing the theme song to the show with several other Hello! Project members. They are known as Athena & Robikerottsu.

Following the departure of leader Miki Fujimoto, Niigaki replaced Ai Takahashi as the sub-leader of Morning Musume.
