Saba Azad

Saba Azad has grown on and around the stage out of pure default as her family has been and continues to be actively associated with theatre as well as other performing arts. A childhood spent surrounded by the stalwarts of Indian theatre created the perfectly conducive environ which further nurtured her love for the performing arts. She started young singing and acting with the theatre group Jana Natya Manch as a part of their stage productions. She got to travel to all corners of India doing the same. It was here she came to meet and work with many greats of Indian theatre including Safdar Hashmi, Habib Tanvir, MK Raina, GP Deshpande and NK Sharma. Saba had an opportunity to face the camera young, acting in a couple of children’s films. During school she was always a part of the school theatre as well as dance productions. Interest in dance led her to train in Oddissi, ballet, jazz, Latin as well as the contemporary dance forms. Here again she got an opportunity to perform with her Odissi guru (smt. Kiran Segal) in and outside the country including England Canada and Nepal. After schooling the obvious ‘now what?’ question popped up and it was the easiest to answer. A lead role in a short film for director ishaan nair which incidentally traveled to festivals in New York, Florence and Israel sealed the deal and re-triggered the love for the camera and there has been no looking back since. Saba moved to Bombay from Delhi round a year and a half back. In her time here she has featured in a dozen commercials ( Kit Kat, Vodafone, Sunsilk, Nescafe , Mayur Suitings, Masterstroke, Dabur juice to name a few) as well as big print campaigns [ Johnson & Johnson ( clean and clear), Westside, Amway].She also acted in a two man play directed by Makarand Deshpande staged at Prithvi theatre. She has also just completed her first film “Dil Kabbadi” with new director Anil Sharma opposite Rahul Bose.

he started her film career young with a few children's films her first film as an adult was a short film, Guroor, that made it to the festival circuit in New York and Florence. Azad started her own theatre company 'The Skins' in 2010 and directed her first play 'Lovepuke' which opened to full houses at NCPA's experimental theatre in sep 2010. her latest acting venture was Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge where she played the leading role of Preity Sen opposite Saqib Saleem produced by Yash Raj Films youth wing Y-Films and directed by Nupur Asthana. She resides in Mumbai, India.
