Samantha Morton Introduction
For every film Samantha Morton does, she seems to insist on doing two where her head is shaved or at least in a buzz cut. This has lead to many a leading man to complain of the velcro factor. It's real. Look it up.
Samantha Morton Life Story
May 13, 1977, Samantha-Jane Morton was born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England, where she robbed from the rich to feed the poor. Her parents divorced in 1979. She attended West Bridgford Comprehensive School and spent part of her childhood in their care. What a beautiful story. More beautiful perhaps, is Samantha's acting career which began as a child actor. At 13 she joined the Central Junior Television Workshop, making many of us wish we knew what that was. At 16 she moved to London and appeared in plays at the Royal Court Theatre, also securing an early break as a guest star in an episode of "Cracker", where she played a mute saltine. Starring roles in Band of Gold and Under the Skin, raised her profile in the UK. This meant nothing to Americans who refuse to watch stuffy British cinema, but lucky for Samantha, Woody Allen watches boring movies and cast her in his film Sweet and Lowdown. For that film, she would receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1999. That was followed by a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress for In America in 2003. This distinction earned her the moniker 'British Meryl Streep with a shaved head'.
Recently, Samantha played the Moors Murderess Myra Hindley in the television film Longford. She again has short hair and adds a prison jumpsuit to boot. She received a 2007 Emmy nomination for her performance in the film. She also recently worked with Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth: The Golden Age where she grew her hair out to a stunning two inches for the role.
She has a daughter, Esme (pronounced...somehow, we're not sure), born in 2000, with actor Charlie Creed-Miles. She is engaged to filmmaker Harry Holm, son of actor Ian Holm. Samantha recently announced that they are expecting their first child in January 2008. Reports have not confirmed if she meant she and Harry or she and Ian.
