Sarah Michelle Gellar Introduction
At 5’2” and little more than a hundred pounds, Sarah Michelle Gellar may be best known her portrayal of Buffy Summers, the title character from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" for 7 seasons(1997-2003), check her gallery. While Sarah had been acting in the soap opera "All My Children" & had minor roles in several TV series & TV movies, before landing the role of Buffy Summers. It was that role that basically made her a major star, and helped her become one of the goto actresses for many of horror/mystery triller type movies from the late 1990's to mid 2000s. Since then she has attempted to expand to lead roles in comedies, & dramatic films. She is also known as a major ambassador of C.A.R.E.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Life Story
Born and raised on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Sarah was discovered at the age of 4 by an agent in an uptown restaurant (note: this only works if you’re 4 and adorable, not 31 and scruffy). Two weeks later, she auditioned and won the part in a TV movie starring Jeff Daniels (that’s right, Jeff frickin’ Daniels!). Not long after that, she appeared in a controversial Burger King commercial, in which her character criticized McDonald’s—which led to a lawsuit, appearances in court, and vaguely menacing threats from the Hamburglar. As a teenager, Sarah picked up work on the unapologetically gay-sounding Swans Crossing (Brittany Daniel) and as Susan Lucci’s long-lost daughter on All My Children. She even scored a Daytime Emmy for the latter—which was around the time her relationship began to strain with Lucci (gee, we wonder why…).
In 1997, at the age of 20, Sarah landed the title role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Alyson Hannigan, Michelle Trachtenberg), which would eat up the better part of seven years and earn her the sort of international fame that Kristy Swanson could only dream about. During her time away from the show, Sarah filmed movies like Cruel Intentions (Reese Witherspoon, Selma Blair, Tara Reid), Simply Irresistible (Amanda Peet), Harvard Man (Rebecca Gayheart), Scooby-Doo (Linda Cardellini) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (Jennifer Love Hewitt). It was on that last one that she met her future husband, Freddie “He’s All That” Prinze Jr. Since Buffy closed shop in 2003, Sarah has done movies like The Grudge, for which she was reportedly paid $6 million (answering the question, “Why would Sarah Michelle Gellar do The Grudge?”).
Coming up, you can spot Sarah in about half a dozen films soon to be released, including Southland Tales (Mandy Moore), Suburban Girl (Maggie Grace) and Possession. And she’ll play Alice in Alice, derived from the video game American McGee’s Alice. If all goes well, look for her to star in the video game based on the movie based on the video game.
Also Sarah & Freddie are now proud new parents of their 1st child.
