Life Story

Silverman was born in Bedford, New Hampshire to a mother who was George McGovern's personal photographer and a father who worked in retail. In the early 90's Silverman began writing for Saturday Night Live. Though none of her sketches ever made it to the final show, she did appear as the Chop Suey in Adam Sandler's classic performance of the song Lunch Lady Land. After one season on SNL, Silverman was fired via fax machine. Following her short stay at SNL, Silverman was hired by HBO's Mr. Show With Bob and David to be a writer and featured performer. In 1997, she appeared on an episode of Seinfeld and Star Trek. Silverman made her motion picture debut in 1998, getting minor roles in Bulworth and There's Something About Mary. Since then, Silverman has been in Evolution, School of Rock, and Rent.

In 2002 Silverman started dating the recently divorced Jimmy Kimmel, thus creating America's funniest couple since Liza Minelli and David Guest. In 2005, Silverman released a concert movie called Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic. The movie netted over 1.3 million dollars at the box office. In February of 2007, Silverman's own TV show, The Sarah Silverman Program, made its debut on Comedy Central. On the show Silverman plays a fictionalized version of herself and, among other things, she runs over people who resemble Osama bin Laden, has an affair with God, and sings songs about poop. The show had two successful 6-episode seasons before being interrupted by the writers strike. The second season eventually finished up with 16 episodes and the third season began in February 2010.

In 2007, Silverman also hosted the MTV Movie Awards. She also ranked #29 on the Maxim magazine Hot 100 of 2007 list. Her next film will be Saint John of Las Vegas (2009).
