She attended the Stagestruck Theatre Company as a young teenager. At 16 she left school to join the London Studio Centre to study drama and dance. She left with that year's trophy for best all-rounder, which had previously been won by Elizabeth Hurley.
Before television fame grabbed her in EastEnders, Tamzin had bit parts in The Bill and Men Behaving Badly.
She played Rebecca in the first two series of stylish drama Hotel Babylon, based on Imogen Edwards-Jones' expose of what goes on behind the scenes in the five-star hotel business.
Tamzin starred in two series of military drama series Red Cap (after a successful pilot in Christmas 2002) and won acclaim for her role in the award-winning improvised drama Out of Control.
Other drama roles Tamzin has played include the part of Caz in When I'm 64, alongside Paul Freeman and Alun Armstrong. This sensitive drama dealt with the subjects of ageism, family loyalty and prejudice.
She also starred in drama Walk Away and I Stumble as Claire Holmes, the "other woman" in a love triangle, who discovers she has an inoperable brain tumour.
Other credits include the devious Natalie in Final Demand with Simon Pegg (Spaced and Shaun Of The Dead), and a guest appearance in the first series of Hustle.
Setting her sights on making it big in Hollywood, Tamzin landed a part opposite Wesley Snipes in action thriller Seven Seconds.
Tamzin's many stage roles have included: Summer Holiday, Grease, Carousel, Oliver and Absent Friends.
In 1987 Tamzin appeared as a presenter on the youth show No Limits (billed as 'Tammi Outhwaite').
