Tanya Franks born 1967 is a British stage and screen actress. Before appearing in the long-running British television show The Bill as DI Rowanne Morell, Tanya appeared in the soap opera Family Affairs, playing bisexual mother Karen Ellis. Tanya plays Karen in the BBC Three comedy Pulling.
In 2006, Franks wrote, produced (via her company, Stock-pot Productions), and starred in One Day, a short film shown at several international film festivals. In addition to Franks, the film starred Tim McInnerny as well as Toby Stephens (in a small part)
It was announced on 3 July 2007 that Franks would play the role of Tanya Branning's sister Rainie Cross in the BBC soap opera EastEnders for a week-long stint, first appearing as Rainie on 2 August 2007. Rainie returned to EastEnders on 7 January 2008, again in 2010, and April 2011. In May 2008, Stock-pot Productions, Franks' company, announced it was producing a feature-length film, Fly Me, to be written by Franks and directed (as was One Day) by James Barriscale. Toby Stephens is to have a lead role, and the film will also co-star Tim McInnerny.[2] Her theatre roles include Amanda in 'Really Old Like Forty Five', Deedee in 'The Black Album' and Gina in 'Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads' at the National Theatre, Sylv in Steven Berkoff's 25th Anniversary production of 'East' in the West End, and Liz Morden in The Watermill Theatre's 'Our Country's Good'
