Tippi Hedren (b.19 January 1930) is an American actress and is the mother of actress Melanie Griffith to whom she had worked on six films including the 1981 film Roar and the 1990 film Pacicfic Hieghts. She was born Nathalie Kay Hedren in New Ulm, Minnesota who is the daughter of Dorothea Henrietta (nee Eckhardt) and Bernard Carl Hedren and her grandparents originated from Sweden She is best known as playing Melanie Daniels in the 1963 film The Birds directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Before her movie career she was a model in the 1950s and 1960s and was discovered by Alfred Hitchcock whilst watching The Today Show on television on a diet drink commercial. She did however appear in another Alfred Hitchcock film in 1964 named Marnie which she co-starred with Sean Connery in which she calls as one of the favorite films she did with Alfred Hitchcock.. But it was The Birds that brought her a Golden Globe as Most Promising Newcomer and Premier magazine chose Hedren's character Melanie Daniels as one of The 100 Greatest Characters of All Time. She later declined doing any more work with Hitchcock and was casted by Charlie Chaplin to feature in his 1967 movie A Countess From Hong Kong which also featured Marlon Brando as his wife. She has appeared in several films between 1967 and 2006 which includes the 2007 film Rodeo Girl.
