Why We Like It

Hanukkah begins Tuesday, and if the mere idea of eight nights of Manischewitz gives you a sugar hangover, consider kicking off the Festival of Lights with a cocktail instead. Like the Concord Grape, Manischewitz’s most popular wine, The Festival of Rye is a fruity tipple. Unlike the Concord Grape, it’s much more balanced, and pretty boozy. While not entirely kosher, this drink features Calvados Coquerel, a certified-kosher apple brandy. It plays perfectly with rye whiskey and a little bit of lemon. A shot of simple syrup ties everything together and lends a familiar, yet subtle, sweetness to the holiday.
