How to Make It
Add the gin, simple syrup, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker, then add a handful of ice. Shake well and strain into the glass. Top it off with Champagne, garnish with a lemon twist, and enjoy.
Why We Like It
Bastille Day is the French holiday, celebrated every July 14, to commemorate the beginning of the French Revolution with the Storming of the Bastille in 1798. It’s much like our Fourth of July. And we know it’s not a celebration without a good drink. So, this week, we’re mixing up a French 75.
This classic cocktail is said to have been created at the New York Bar in Paris in 1915 and is named for a piece of French artillery. It’s made with gin, fresh-squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, and Champagne and it’s a perfectly refreshing drink to sip in the summertime. It’s generally not made with ice, but I like to use one large ice cube to keep it cool.
