How to Make It

Add the egg, milk, sugar, vanilla and ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg to a blender. Blend well until all of the ingredients are incorporated and the mixture has begun to foam. Add the rum and blend again for at least 30 seconds. Serve immediately in a stemmed glass or mug, or refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg just before serving.

Why We Like It

Whether you’re playing Santa, or you just really like eggnog, ’tis the season to sip it regularly. But skip the store-bought stuff; it’s super easy to make at home.

By definition, eggnog is simply a blend of milk or cream, beaten eggs, sugar, nutmeg and liquor. This one is made with rum, but you can also make it with bourbon (or really any liquor of your choice).

Most modern connoisseurs of eggnog believe that a homemade version needs to age. But this is quick eggnog, so it’s meant to be consumed immediately or shortly after you mix it up.
