How to Make It

Moisten the rim of a pint glass or mason jar with a lemon slice, then gently roll the rim of the glass on a plate of salt. Add the whiskey and apple cider to the glass, mix well, then fill with ice. Top off with beer, stir, and enjoy (not with a straw, or you won’t taste the salt).

Why We Like It

Whether you watch the Super Bowl for the game or the commercials — or are just hoping to catch another stray nipple at half time — if you’re anything like me, you’re equally excited for the food and drinks. Should your Super Bowl party be cheering for Seattle, I suggest you show up ready to bust out The Salted Seahawk, a beer cocktail made with whiskey and apple — the official fruit of Washington state. My first attempt at this cocktail was made with a half ounce of apple cider vinegar. I’m a fan of shrubs and sour beers, so I really liked it, but it’s a little too tart for the masses. A more palatable version uses an ounce of good apple cider instead. The salt comes from the rim, so definitely don’t use a straw with this one.
