How to Make It

Add the milk, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, cayenne and ancho chile powder to a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk until the ingredients are hot (but not scorching or boiling) and well incorporated, then reduce the heat to a simmer and add the tequila. When the mixture is heated throughout, pour it into a mug, then top it with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Why We Like It

If you’re in a colder climate but still want things to get a little caliente, whip up a round or two of this Mexican hot chocolate spiked with tequila.

Mexican hot chocolate is a lot like traditional hot cocoa, but with the addition of warming spices like cinnamon and cayenne. You can make your own by adding spices to regular cocoa powder according to this recipe, or just use a pre-packaged Mexican hot chocolate mix if you can find a good one. But whatever you do, don’t forget the tequila!
