Why We Like It

The Americano cocktail may have originated in Italy in the 1860s — legend holds that it eventually got its name due to its popularity with American expats during Prohibition — but we’re going to go ahead and consider it an American classic. At least this weekend. And whether it’s Italian or American, it’s a cocktail you should know.

Made with Campari (an apéritif that’s herbal, fruity, and a little spicy) sweet vermouth, and club soda, the Americano is an easy summer sipper. Mix a few of them up as an act of patriotism while you flip burgers and watch fireworks this weekend. U-S-A, U-S-A!
